A collection of essays about the best people I know

Darsh

One of the things I'll always be grateful to Marc for is that he brought Darsh into my life too.

I am in awe of Darsh. She is a sharp journalist, a talented artist, a fantastic cook, and most of all, a great friend.

On the day I moved to Hong Kong, she and Marc invited me to a family dinner with her mom. If I ever doubted I'd have family in a new city, that reassured me I shouldn't. I was traveling for my 31st birthday and when I came back a week later, she and Marc made sure I had a home-cooked Asian meal one evening.

In Hong Kong, Marc and I had news jobs that made us grumpy sometimes, and if we wanted to go to dinner, it had to be earlier than usual and we needed to wrap up early to prepare for the next day's news cycle. Darsh was always patient, and I appreciate that she extended that patience to me.

Whenever I talk to Darsh, I'm humbled because I'm reminded of how much I don't know, that's how smart she is. It reminds me to be more thoughtful about reading into things I'm not naturally drawn to, and very few people have that effect on me.

I'll always remember how Marc's eyes lit up when he talked about Darsh, and I told Marc several times how he and Darsh reminded me of my parents.

The last few years have not been easy, and I don't always understand how Darsh still has space for my grief, but she does, and that's something I'll forever be grateful to her, and Marc, for.
