Road to 40

A collection of essays about the best people I know

I mark my milestones, usually by going on a big trip or getting a timepiece. But 40 feels different. It feels bigger, feels midlife. It feels like a point of no return.

For a few months now, I've been reflecting about the last 39 years, how I got here and what I should do about it.

Should I take on a writing project? Sure, but what should I write about? Life lessons? There are plenty of those. Adventures? I think my photos speak better. Songs? Too lazy.

So I thought, what if I wrote about 40 people who have made a significant difference in my life?

If you're getting a copy of this, it means there's a chapter in here about you.

The list is in no particular order. I literally opened the Notes app, and told myself I'll write this book – of sorts - if I could list 40 people and realized how lucky I am it wasn't hard at all. Some chapters are long, and others are short but it doesn't mean you are less important. My memory at 39 is not as sharp as it used to be.

My only ask is that you keep this private. Someday, with your permission, I may make it public, but not yet. Not yet.

(I hope you know where those last four words come from. Hint: Only the greatest film of all time.)
